Clinker Tenders

Cockwells Dinghies and Tenders

At Cockwell's, we take the same care over our small boats as with our major projects. These clinker boats would make an ideal tender, a small fishing boat or inland waterway rowing boat.

Recently the Torpoint Ferry Company commissioned Cockwells to build the replacements for the existing ferry tenders. The lines were lifted off the original boats to ensure the end product was the same as the original.

The clinker tenders have been constructed with Larch planking, Iroko transom and centre line. The thwarts are also in Iroko and the steamed frames and knees are from oak.

Generally the work done on these vessels is performed by the apprentices of Cockwells under the watchful eyes of the shipwrights. This is one of the ways the apprentices get real hands on experience of wooden boat building.

The images below show the boats at different stages of build.

Why not order a fully varnished mahogany hull on oak frame 12ft tender, these are built to order, designed to traditional specifications (larch on oak is an option). Contact us to discuss your requirements.

The 14" Clinker boat in the main picture above was built for a client whose home has just a small stream at the bottom of the garden, but who still dreamed of looking out of the window to see his own boat. This 14' Clinker boat was designed to traditional specifications, with a fully varnished mahogany hull giving a beautifully classic look.
