St. Mawes Passenger Ferry

St. Mawes Passenger Ferry

This ferry has been commissioned by The St Mawes Ferry Company and they have requested the launch date for spring 2008. With Jonny Mills the Project Leader and apprentices Ryan and Tom on this project the work is running to schedule. The opepe keel was laid and the framing competed by October 2006 when Cockwells and St Mawes ferry company raised their champagne glasses to celebrate!

"This is the first wooden ferry that has been built in this area for a very long time and it is fascinating to be at the forefront of this project and watch every stage of the build" said Tim Light Managing Director of St Mawes Ferry Company. "I am also delighted that this project has enabled Cockwells to develop their apprenticeship programme with support from the Cornwall Marine Network, which means we are playing a big part in creating more job opportunities for local people".

The deck beams and engine beds are all now in place. At present the frames are being planked in larch with completion planned for the middle of May. The next stage will be laying the composite deck.
