A new deck for Pinuccia
Refit and maintenance of an elegant Italian racing yacht
Pinuccia is the classic yacht belonging to one of Cornwall’s most luxurious hotels, the Tresanton in St Mawes.
She is often seen gracing the waters of the Carrick Roads with her sleek classical racing lines as she sets to work, entertaining hotel guests, under white sails.
We are very pleased to look after Pinuccia. She has been to Cockwells for a major refit including a new deck and since then she’s come back to us for regular maintenance.
Built in 1939 for a wealthy Italian publisher, Pinuccia’s purpose was to challenge the Coppa d’Italia – one of sailing’s most prestigious prizes.
She is a prime example of a classic International 8 Metre yacht. The International Rule was set up in 1907 to replace earlier, simpler handicap system which operated on local or sometimes national scales.
The problems with earlier handicap systems were that they applied only to local yachts and made international competition difficult or frustratingly uncompetitive.
The Eight Metre class was the medium size rating established under the International Rule and it was chosen to race in the 1908 Olympics.
