Polly Agatha wins the ‘Spirit of Regatta’ Trophy at the Classic Channel Regatta in PaimpolPolly Agatha has just returned from the Cross Channel Regatta for Classic Yachts having won the top prize of ‘Spirit of Regatta’ Cup in Paimpol. The event consisted of two days racing in Dartmouth followed by the Dartmouth to Paimpol race in which she came second from among nearly 60 classic yachts. Polly Agatha averaged 10 knots for the whole 105 mile passage race! The crew experienced a very warm welcome in Paimpol and then competed in a further race around Isle de Brehart. Finally they sailed up to Guernsey and competed in the ‘Round Sark’ race before returning to their base in the Solent. Next year’s event will be hosted by Brest and Polly Agatha will be planning to compete again. If you want to find out more, please visit Polly Agatha’s website at www.polly-agatha.co.uk. |

At Cockwells we are all passionate about sailing.Dave and Nigel regularly race on Falmouth Working Boats. For hundreds of years these boats have dredged for oysters under sail in the Carrick Roads and local byelaws ensure that this continues today. There are a handful of Working Boats which dredge in the winter and race in the summer, but most do either one or the other. They are gaff cutters and each of the racing boats has a unique coloured topsail. Dave co-owns Mildred (built in 1913) and often has Jo and Damian as part of his crew, and Nigel is part of a syndicate which owns Evelyn (built in 1898) so several of us are regularly seen to be doing friendly battle on the race course. |
