Cockwells embark on tree planting scheme
As specialists in wooden boatbuilding we are conscience that we are using a precious natural resource (wood). In order to give something back to the environment, we are embarking on an initiative to plant in excess of 100 trees every year within cornwall (at least 5 times the amount we use). The trees will be planted in sustainably managed woodlands and our hope is that in 100 years from now some of them will still be around to support boatbuilders of that generation. We make a point of using all our wood responsibily, by firstly minimising waste through accurate cutting techniques and then by either re-using or recycling off cuts, waste wood and saw dust. We build our boats to last at least 100 years with proper maintainence, so hopefully they will still be giving people enjoyment when our new trees come to full maturity.

Cockwells Featured in the Daily Telegraph
We were featured in the Daily Telegraph on Saturday August 12th 2006, which praised our work with apprentices and highlighting the value of craftsmanship in this country. An extract from the article follows; "Boatbuilders such as David Cockwell in Falmouth run their own apprenticeship schemes in addiotn to taking on graduates of boat-building courses. Cockwell, who founded Cockwells Modern & Classic Boatbuilding 10 years ago with one apprentice, now employs 10 peoople and is expanding further".
Cockwells featured in 'Yachting World' Oct 2006
The October edition of 'Yachting World' featured an article on 'Pilot Cutters', which was excellent for raising the profile of these beautiful boats. Of course we were especially happy that our current Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter replica was featured in the article.
